What is your role at the agency?
I work as assistant to Camilla Bolton and am also building my own list here as a Junior Agent in the crime thriller and suspense area.
How did you get into publishing?
After my masters I started interning anywhere I could with the hope of getting into publishing and working with books. I sort of stumbled across literary agencies (I had no idea what an agent was!) After doing work placements at two different agencies, I found my first job following a placement at Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency as an Agent’s Assistant. I learned so much, totally fell in love with the agency side of publishing and haven’t looked back! Then in March 2020 I landed the dream role here at Darley Anderson.
What’s the best part of your job?
The reading. I know it sounds obvious but books are my favourite thing! Reading submissions and manuscripts from authors is what makes me excited and then getting to work creatively with authors.
What do you look for in a book?
I always want to escape! I want to be drawn into a world – it can be like mine or totally different but I just want to be able to absorb myself completely in it and imagine it fully. At the moment I am loving anything that’s a bit glam suspense – give me luxury private island resort and a murderer on the loose! I want to know the decadent details, but also know there is some danger.
What’s on your “to be read” list?
SO many things! My next holiday reading list is currently the following…
That Green Eyed Girl by Julia Owen Moylan
Two Nights in Lisbon by Chris Pavone
The Seawomen by Chloe Timms
Good Intentions by Kasim Ali
Who is your favourite fiction character?
Any Nora Robert’s character I just fall in love with. Nora Roberts is the author I will go back to time and time again. Along with incredible settings, she expertly creates such vivid and memorable characters – I love her fiery women especially – who you just want to know and spend time with.
What is your go to reading snack?
Steaming hot tea and chocolate hobnobs, please.
What soon to be published book are you most looking forward to reading?
I have quite a few things pre ordered at the moment… but I think I am most looking forward to the new Taylor Jenkins-Reid book, Carrie Soto Is Back, when it’s released later this year
I have also had Circe by Madeline Miller on my bedside table for months. I loved The Song of Achilles so I am very excited about that one.
I am also loving Anne Cleeves’ books recently and making my way through the Vera Stanhope novels so I am always excited to dive into one of those.
